The Fluidtime MaaS Symposium is a key event in the field of Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), bringing together stakeholders and experts from around the world every year. The 6th edition took place from 16th – 17th September 2021 in Vienna and focused on the importance of ecosystems under the motto “The ecosystem play”.
For two days, we looked at ecosystems at different scales, from neighborhoods to cities and regions. We engaged with the actors in these systems and explored how they work together towards MaaS. The 6th Fluidtime MaaS Symposium focused on the following three aspects:
How do you establish and maintain collaborative relationships between actors? How can these act as the basis for a MaaS system?
How do different stakeholders build a common understanding for customers? Who owns the user? Who owns the data?
How are alliances for joint mobility solutions formed? How can self-interest and the common good be combined? Whose success is it?

As part of a university project at the Vienna University of Technology, students selected three ecosystems to analyze in terms of MaaS. To do this, they applied the Ecosystem Canvas, interviewed stakeholders, and designed implementation solutions. The results from the project were presented during the event program.

The current transportation system is heavily dominated by individual motorized transportation on the road. The climate crisis requires the restructuring of this system according to the premise of less traffic, more mobility. This requires, as in an ecosystem, a variety of complementary, attractive and climate-friendly solutions. These solutions combine active mobility with public transport and on-demand services and cover a wide range of mobility requirements in line with needs.
