How a Dutch MaaS app revolutionizes interregional travel.

The Moves MaaS app is the key to better mobility. Route searching, paying for public transport tickets as well as opening and closing sharing vehicles – you can achieve all that with a single app.

It’s never been easier to travel without your own car. In the Netherlands, travelers only need one app to plan, book and pay for all their journeys within the country. Both end consumers and companies use the app to promote climate-friendly mobility.

About our cooperation partners

In 2017, the Dutch government tendered seven MaaS pilot projects to digitize and bundle mobility nationwide. Our project partner won the most comprehensive of the tendered projects, allowing us to jointly develop a MaaS solution for the Rotterdam metropolitan region. We launched the Moves MaaS app in May 2021 and the user base has been steadily growing ever since. Our cooperation partner is an international trading and service company with a strong focus on mobility. With an annual turnover of EUR 8.1 billion and over 16,500 employees worldwide, it is one of the largest companies in the Netherlands.

The metropolitan region of Rotterdam The Hague: young, urban and innovative

With more than 617,000 inhabitants, Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands. Rotterdam is young, dynamic, and constantly developing. The public transport system provided by RET carries 176 million passengers per year. Airport Rotterdam The Hague connects the region to the world and is set to become the best regional airport in Europe. In 2019, the airport carried around 2.1 million passengers and operated 52,000 flights. Rotterdam is well connected to the surrounding cities of The Hague, Delft, Schiedam, Gouda and Dordrecht, which all can be reached within half an hour by train.

All in one app: Plan-Book-Pay-Enjoy

Put an end to numerous apps, various accounts and physical tickets The Moves MaaS app brings everything together in one place – from planning the route to eventually returning the shared vehicle. Mobility has never been so easy.

Multimodal routes through a wide range of transportation options.

There are many ways to get from A to B. In Moves, app users decide which means of transport they want to use and receive corresponding route recommendations. In addition to public transport, the MaaS app also offers sharing vehicles and shuttle services, which can all be flexibly combined. The Moves MaaS app uses real-time data to display the best possible connections. Users can have their driver’s license checked directly via the app so that they can use car sharing right away.

No matter whether it’s for leisure or business travel: mobility budgets and in-app payments simplify your booking.

The booking and payment of mobility services is possible within the app. You directly pay via Moves either with credit card or with an allocated mobility budget. Trips can be classified as business or private. After account approval, the MaaS app Moves processes your payment via your company credit card or the payment is performed as a collective invoice for business bills.

B2B customers can also flexibly adjust their pricing scheme. Both monetary and non-monetary currency units are available for selection. For example, CO2 points are a popular currency as they incentivize sustainable travel.

Easily rent shared vehicles directly with Moves MaaS app

Moves also allows unlocking cars and bikes. The MaaS app is the first in the world to support telematics of different carsharing and bikesharing providers. As early as 15 minutes before the start of the rental, travelers can start the rental via the app. With one click, the vehicle is unlocked or locked again at the end of the rental period.

Gain insights into mobility behavior to improve the metropolitan region

Customized reports and data exports can be used to analyze mobility experiences of citizens, commuters and employees. Insights into route bookings, peak travel times, travel motives and the most frequent route requests help to improve the metropolitan region’s mobility situation in the long term.
